Mass production of third-generation AirPods will begin in August, according to a new report from Nikkei Asia. They would join a number of other products such as the iPhone 13 line and redesigned MacBook Pro models in launches before the end of the year.
Rumor has it that third-generation AirPod launch dates have varied widely over the past year, with some reporting a first-half 2021 launch that obviously didn’t go through while others reported that a launch in the second half was more likely.
With the launch of mass production next month, a launch could take place as early as September alongside the new iPhones, although Apple could certainly still wait to launch them alongside other products later in the year.
The third-generation AirPods are rumored to adopt a similar design to the current AirPods Pro, with shorter stems and silicone tips for a customizable fit. However, they would lack some of the advanced features of the AirPods Pro such as active noise cancellation.
The AirPods Pro are also rumored to see an update with the stems removed entirely, which could result in a similar design to the recently launched Beats Studio Buds. However, according to rumors, the debut of the second-generation AirPods Pro won’t happen until the first half of 2022.
