AMD Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” processors expected to begin mass production: launch by October 2022 [Report]

AMD’s next-gen Ryzen 7000 processors are closing in on launch, with mass production slated to begin next month. According to Greymon55 (one of the most reputable sources on AMD hardware), all the necessary equipment and raw materials have been prepared by the packaging factories and mass production will start in the next 30-40 days. It should be noted that the 5nm compute chips which are the main component of AMD processors have already undergone mass production to enable the packaging step.

Just a few days ago we reported that AMD had made the first (engineering) samples of the next generation Epyc Genoa server processors with Raphael (Ryzen 7000) but not yet received the same treatment. This story is the response to that particular report.

Mass production (or packaging) usually takes 4-6 months, which means the Ryzen 7000 chips are expected to be available by the last quarter of 2022. We’re looking at a September or October launch window, about two years after the Ryzen 5000 processors were released.

AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors will adopt the AM5 platform which uses the LGA1718 socket, a radical departure from the PGA socket that the chipmaker has leveraged over the past two decades. As the pins will be on the motherboard socket, there will be less CPU RMA and loss. AM5 will support both DDR4 and DDR5, although it’s unclear if AMD will actually enable it on Raphael processors. PCIe Gen 5 support is also confirmed, but again it is possible that it will be removed from the client platform. Keep an eye out for new Ryzen 7000/Zen 4. As more engineering samples are tested, we should start to see more and more leaks.
