Apple Car team needs reorganization in 3-6 months for mass production by 2025 [Kuo]

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the company’s automotive team needs to revamp quickly if it plans to hit mass production by 2025.

In a tweet today, Kuo said:

The Apple Car project team has been disbanded for some time. The reorganization in the next three to six months is necessary to achieve the mass production target by 2025.

Apple’s seven-year car project has seen frequent changes in revenue and strategy. In December, several key departures followed the loss of at least six other members of its management team, including former chief Doug Field.

That being said, the project’s new leader, VP of Technology Kevin Lynch, has accelerated the effort, pushing for a fully self-driving car in its first version.

It is believed that Apple’s ideal car would be designed around hands-free driving without the steering wheel or pedals. Passengers sat along the sides of the vehicle and faced each other, like a limousine. The company is said to have reached key milestones in the development of its autonomous driving system. Much of the groundwork on the vehicle’s initial processor has been completed, including work on the underlying software that runs on the chip to power self-driving capabilities.

Foxconn and Luxshare are already seeking orders; However, analysts believe that Apple could still bring in more experienced automakers for early testing.
