According to a new report, Apple’s alleged AR/VR headset will be launched again towards the end of 2022.
Following previous claims by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman that Apple’s mixed reality headset could be pushed to 2023, a DigiTimes report yesterday said the company was able to complete production testing of the product. Now, in an expanded version of that report seen by MacRumors, DigiTimes now says that Apple plans to release the product before the end of 2022.
To do that, it will need to complete the next stage of production validation testing as soon as possible, particularly if claims of mass production from August or September are accurate.
Apple’s first AR headset, primarily targeting professional vertical market applications, is expected to undergo EVT3 soon and enter volume production in August-September before hitting the market by the end of the year. the sources said.
The headset is said to be pricey with prices north of $2,000 which should be accurate. The helmet is not considered a product that will be sold in large quantities, at least initially. However, this whole product is seen by some as more of a stepping stone as Apple continues to work on Apple Glass – a product that will look more like an advanced Google Glass product than the VR headsets we’re more used to seeing. .
If Apple is indeed set to launch this new headset by the end of the year, we can probably expect some sort of announcement at this year’s WWDC event. If developers will be able to create apps for use on the headset, they will need to know months before it ships.
WWDC, Apple’s annual developer conference, normally takes place in June.
