Aregbesola commissions passport production center in Enugu

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State commended Home Minister Rauf Aregbesola for delivering on his promise to provide needed updated passport services to the people of Enugu and the entire Southern Zone -East.

Governor Ugwuanyi, who spoke through the Enugu State Secretary of Government (SSG), Prof. Simon Ortuanya at the State Immigration Headquarters in Emene Enugu, committed to continue its partnership with the ministry for the development of the country and the satisfaction of the needs of the people.

Earlier in his welcoming remarks, the Comptroller of Immigration Department, Enugu State Command congratulated the Minister saying, “Just six (6) months ago, the Minister of Interior and twice Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni RaufvAregbelosa was in Enugu State to commission the Nigerian Immigration Service Command Office Complex. The historic commissioning ceremony was monumental considering the complex’s checkered history which was destroyed during the EndEARS crisis but single-handedly rebuilt thanks to the indomitable patriotic spirit of a great son of the ground, Engr Stan Ani.

“It is gratifying that only six months after this momentous event, the Home Secretary is back in Enugu to perform another significant and symbolic ceremony. This time, the Minister accompanied by the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, is in Coal City to unveil the upgraded e-Passport and commission the Southeast Passport Production Center located in Enugu at this complex.

Also speaking, the Acting Comptroller General expressed enthusiasm that the people of the Southeast could now rejoice, stressing that it was not that his service was oblivious to the suffering of the people, but that the time and resources had not allowed for earlier action.

He commended Governor Ugwuanyi for his support and assistance to the state command which resulted in the realization of the project.

In response, Aregbesola praised Ugwuanyi whom he described as his good friend and one who was of immense help to the immigration department in Enugu State.

The minister said that not only does the South East have a passport production center at their fingertips, but also that people now have access to an array of improved e-passport choices that will help them travel across the world.
