ASPİLSAN Energy will start mass production on lithium-ion battery in the first half of the year

Despite the global economic difficulties encountered during the pandemic period, ASPİLSAN Energy also continued its steady growth in 2021. Making a statement on the work done in 2021, Ferhat Özsoy, General Manager of ASPİLSAN Energy, said, “The pandemic and the economic difficulties have affected us, like many other companies. However, despite the pandemic and global economic issues, we made significant progress in 2021.

Our investment in the li-ion battery production facility, which we started and are continuing with the support of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, has become ASPİLSAN Energy’s most important issue this year in terms of transformation. and growth. It is an important and strategic project for our country as well, and I can say that with this awareness, we have given our full attention to the realization of the project. Our work for this facility, where we expect mass production of batteries to begin in the first half of 2022, has been the core business of our focus. Realizing this investment in a short time was possible with serious efforts.

Our R&D studies continue

In addition to new commercial batteries, we have launched high-tech battery design projects for ASELSAN, TAI and Roketsan products, and we have also made significant progress in this area. These batteries will make a significant contribution to the domestic and domestic production of our country’s critical defense systems. As an institution of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, our main objective is to meet the battery and battery needs of the Turkish Armed Forces. On the other hand, developments in battery technology and battery systems are now included in the whole of life. As ASPİLSAN Energy, we have come a long way in battery production locally and nationally. In this context, we seek above all to understand the needs of all sectors and to develop solutions with them. In this way, we aim to reduce the current account deficit with solutions that will meet all the needs of our country, while increasing the rate of domesticity of the battery that we will produce.

In addition, we have completed the establishment of an infrastructure capable of developing and designing batteries and supporting raw material producers at our R&D center in Ankara. In this R&D center, which will be a base for our country’s battery studies, we serve all our stakeholders regarding all kinds of tests, small or large, for the production and development of batteries. Likewise, thanks to a contract we have signed with TUBITAK Rail Transport Technologies Institute (RUTE), we jointly carry out battery development studies.

Our Istanbul R&D center, on the other hand, reached an important milestone by unveiling the first prototypes of its hydrogen and fuel cell work this year. We presented our electrolyser and fuel cell prototypes to the public at SAHA EXPO. The importance of this work became even more evident after the signing of the Paris Convention. This year, we passed an important milestone in this regard.

Our expanded product portfolio in non-defence sectors

When we look at new markets and products, we have entered an important market by locating various railway system batteries this year. Along with the investments in metros and trains made in our country, this year we have obtained the results of our investments in the field of railway system batteries, and we have supplied our first national railway system batteries to our companies and manufacturers.

Also, we started donating our first products for different naval platforms this year. In addition, we decided to produce batteries for household appliances together with Arçelik, and we took another step towards a new market. Again, we started supplying our products to two different sectors with our telecommunications batteries and our electric mobility batteries. Thanks to the certification of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which we obtained this year, we have also entered the civil aviation market. In this regard, we can say that 2021 has been an important year of transformation for ASPİLSAN Energy.

Our workforce has increased by more than 100%

ASPİLSAN Energy grew by more than 2021% in terms of employment per 100 and the number of our employees, which was about 100 at the beginning of the year, reached 235 at the end of the year.

ASPİLSAN Energy continued its rapid growth in 2021, especially with the support of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation. In this growth, including ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, Roketsan and HAVELSAN have also provided significant support and contributions.
