Buhari orders mass production of solar cells to increase power supply

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buhari is the president of NASENI.

According to Haruna, the president also spearheaded the implementation of a modular irrigation project and the production of more farming tools, to boost farming activities.

He said: “The President is impressed that NASENI is fulfilling his mandate. I gave him the usual quarterly briefing and he is happy with what we did this quarter.

“Therefore, he asked us to do more, especially in the modular irrigation project that we are starting from Adamawa State, the production of solar cells and also agricultural tools..”

The boss of NASENI informed reporters that the agency was able to have an impact on the electricity sector, leading to the establishment of a factory in Karshi, Abuja.

According to him, the plant has the capacity to produce 7.5 megawatts of solar energy.

“Thanks to our solar research and development activities, it is such a success that thanks to local innovations we now have a limited liability plant with a capacity of 7.5 megawatts.

“The company is 100% owned by the government of Karshi-Abuja and produces the highest quality solar modules.

“These modules are installed in many places, we have resellers who buy and distribute them and we participate in installations in private and government buildings.

“7.5 megawatts cannot meet the nation’s needs and it does not make the price of solar energy affordable because the cells used are imported.

“Solar cells are silicon products, and silicon is obtained from silica, which is nothing but the sand that we have left behind,”‘ he said.

He said this informed the President’s endorsement for the Agency to get the facility from China to get 100% made in Nigeria products,

“When this is done, the solar power supply will be affordable because the most expensive component is the cells,” he said.

The boss of NASENI revealed that a unit of the agency, the Nigerian company Machine Tools Osogbo in Osun State, also produces protective items for security guards.

According to him, the company is also assembling armored personnel carriers, in collaboration with Azerbaijan and Indonesia.

“The Nigerian Machine Tools Osogbo has done a lot in the production of protective products; anti-ballistic helmets, and other bulletproof vests and boots among others.

“With NASENI’s collaboration with Indonesia and Azerbaijan, we have trained people on how to assemble armored personnel carriers and produce some carrier components.,” he said.

Haruna also disclosed that the agency produces laboratory equipment for science students in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the country.
