California almond production and grain leave Ukrainian port

** California almond production for 2022 is expected to be 11% lower than last year.

That’s according to almond condition forecasts released recently by the USDA’s National Ag Statistic Service.

Last year, California produced 2.92 billion pounds of almond meat, but this year’s forecast stands at 2.6 billion, revised down from the more promising May report.

The top almond producing counties in California are Fresno, Kern, Stanislaus, Merced, and Madera.

** A ship carrying grain left the Ukrainian port of Odessa for Lebanon on Monday under a safe passage agreement, according to Ukrainian and Turkish officials.

According to www.agrimarketing.com, it was the first departure since the Russian invasion blocked shipping through the Black Sea five months ago.

The sailing was made possible after Turkey and the United Nations brokered a grain and fertilizer export deal between Russia and Ukraine last month.

** Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said the administration’s Cut Inflation Act would have a significant impact on America’s rural and farming communities.

He adds, from climate-smart agriculture to support for healthy forests, tax credits, biofuels, infrastructure and beyond, this agreement gives the USDA significant additional resources.

House Ag chair Debbie Stabenow said it contains nearly $40 billion to tackle the climate crisis, cut costs and create well-paying jobs by investing in agriculture, forestry and rural communities .
