State-owned Oil India Ltd (OIL) suffered a major cyberattack at its headquarters in Duliajan, eastern Assam, with the hacker demanding $75,000,000, officials said on Wednesday.
OIL’s chief security officer, Sachin Kumar, who filed an FIR with the police on Tuesday evening, said his server, network and other related services were affected due to the cyber ransomware attack on Sunday.
OIL, however, said the company’s exploration and production work was not affected due to the alleged cyberattack.
OIL spokesman Tridiv Hazarika said there was no impact to production and drilling activities due to the cyberattack.
“Production and drilling activities are not entirely dependent on IT resources. The software that manages business functions, including payments to suppliers and contractors, has also not been affected and is operating as usual. “, said Hazarika. IANS.

“After their preliminary investigation, it occurred to them that Oll’s network, server and client PCs are facing a network failure. In addition, it also occurred to them that the cyber -attacker demanded $75,000,000 in ransom through a note from the infected PC,” FIR said.
OIL is India’s second largest national Navratna company after ONGC in terms of total proven and probable oil and natural gas reserves.
