Desktop Metal triples the final assembly capacity of the P-50 production system

Metal desk announced the opening of a new in-house manufacturing facility that will more than triple its final assembly capacity for the P-50 production system.

The company says the expansion of the manufacturing space for the P-50 metal 3D printing system meets “high demand”. This is part of a strategic plan to “accelerate the ramp-up” of Desktop Metal’s flagship product, with the company currently “purchasing components and assembling initial builds slated for shipment in Q4 2021.”

Desktop Metal first introduced the P-50 platform in 2017 as the company made its big market launch. At the end of 2020, he then announced a slight name change when launching the P-1 benchtop production system. The machine is powered by Desktop Metal’s once-through jet technology and has been designed for mass production, with the company targeting manufacturing quantities of millions of pieces per year.

As the shipment of the P-50 gets closer, the demand would increase. Desktop Metal is responding with a significant expansion of its manufacturing space in an effort to ensure that demand is met.

“After a significant development cycle, we are experiencing growing and pent-up demand for our Production System P-50 solution. As we continue to convert these opportunities, expanding our in-house final assembly capabilities has become a critical step for the large-scale deployment of our Single Pass Jetting technology,” commented Ric Fulop, Founder and CEO of Desktop Metal. “This new facility in Massachusetts, working with our contract manufacturers and suppliers, supports our ability to meet the growing demand for high-volume applications. We are now well positioned to provide our global customers with the fastest metal 3D printing platform to enable cost effective mass production via additive manufacturing.
