Apple’s leaked two-port USB-C wall charger could see the light of day in the near future as an analyst claims it will soon enter mass production.
On Friday, a support document briefly posted and then deleted from Apple’s website described the previously unreleased Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter. Although the leak doesn’t indicate when it will launch, it looks like it could be a few months before it sees the light of day.
In a Saturday Tweeter, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo took up the leak, saying the components of the article are “moving closer to mass production.” While an item entering production is a positive sign for a product, there is no definitive timeframe for its release, but it could easily surface in a few months.
Kuo is optimistic about the adapter’s prospects, adding that estimates of its 2022 shipments are between 2 and 3 million.
Apple is believed to have been working on GaN chargers for some time, with a 2022 release speculated. GaN (gallium nitride) power adapters are generally smaller and more energy efficient than silicon-based versions, although it is unclear if the leaking charger is a GaN model.
In March, Kuo announced that Apple’s first GaN-based charger would be “around 30W”, a claim he also reiterated in the tweet.
