It comes as the energy technology company prepares for the start of construction in the fall of its “Enapter Campus” mass production and R&D site. Today, it manufactures its AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) electrolysers in series. AEM is widely regarded by scientists as the most cost-effective electrolysis technology. Its mass production will turn cost reduction potential into reality and put global hydrogen production targets within reach.
The Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Digitization and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia has announced funding of 9.3 million euros for this company, recognizing its strong potential for innovation ( see the ad hoc announcement of 11.06.2021). Up to 66 people will work there as part of the 300+ employees expected to be hired for the Saerbeck Climate Community Campus in NRW.
“With the ELEFACT project, we are moving forward with the ramp-up of the hydrogen sector. The industrial mass production of highly innovative electrolysers will enable us to deploy green hydrogen at low cost in many sectors. conversion of our industry and makes an important contribution to achieving climate protection goals. With hydrogen, we are creating the job opportunities of tomorrow. Andreas Pinkwart, Minister of State of North Rhine-Westphalia for Economy, Innovation, Digitization and Energy.
The new production line will be able to automate the mass production of AEM electrolyzer components, as well as their stand-alone assembly into electrolyzer cores and the assembly and testing of finished electrolyzer modules. Professors of the Münster project partner University of Applied Sciences will provide additional expertise on electrochemical issues.
“This machine will innovate, unleash the decarbonizing power of AEM technology and provide an expansion plan,” said Sebastien Justus Schmidt, chairman of Enapter AG. “The automated mass production possible with our standardized AEM electrolyzers will make green hydrogen affordable, accessible and scalable. “
