EnSilica Chassis Control ASIC for High-End Automotive Brand Goes into Mass Production

2.5 million mixed-signal ASICs to be produced in 1st year

OXFORD, UK – June 29, 2022 EnSilica (LON: ENSI), a leading manufacturer of mixed-signal ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) chips, announced the development of a custom chassis control ASIC, which has entered production mass and will appear in vehicles later this year.

The device will first be used in a flagship model recently launched by the high-end OEM and is then expected to roll out to other vehicles in its range. Depending on the model, up to 24 chassis control devices will be used per vehicle.

2.5 million ASIC devices will be delivered to the luxury automaker over the next 12 months, with an expected lifetime of seven years.

About ASIC

The complex mixed-signal ASIC uses a BCD process with high voltage transistors and combines extensive monitoring and fault detection circuitry (e.g. open and short pins, over and under voltage detection and monitoring frequency) with duplicate redundancy on key functions.

The part is AEC-Q100 grade 0 qualified, EnSilica’s internal functional safety team developed the ASIC to meet the requirement defined in ISO 26262 Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL-D ) the most demanding.

ASIC development began in mid-2018 and was approved for production earlier this year. The design was undertaken by EnSilica, working closely with leading independent semiconductor test and qualification company, RoodMicrotec NV

EnSilica selected RoodMicrotec NV to support it in the qualification and testing of this mixed-signal automotive ASIC. RoodMicrotec NV will undertake final testing of the ASIC at its factory in Nördlingen, Germany.

Ian Lankshear, CEO of EnSilica plc, said:

“Our design team was able to deliver the first silicon samples in less than 12 months, given the complexity of this mixed-signal chip and the additional overhead of ISO 26262 compliance at ASIL-D, c was a real feat. The RoodMicrotec and EnSilica teams worked well together to go through AEC-Q100 qualification, test program development, and then prepare it for automotive grade production approval.

Martin Sallenhag, CEO of RoodMicrotec, added:

“It has been exciting to support EnSilica in bringing this project to production over the past few years. We are now looking forward to supporting the production of this device at our factory in Nördlingen. This again shows the demand for our unique combined capabilities, depth of experience and excellent track record in bringing automotive products to market for our valued customers.
