Hexagon Purus, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of zero-emission mobility solutions, has sign a long-term binding letter of intent with Hino Motors Manufacturing US. Hexagon Purus will supply batteries for multiple Hino truck platforms with mass production expected from 2024. Total sales value over the term of the agreement is estimated at US$1 billion.
Already a development partner in Hino’s “Project Z” battery electric vehicle (BEV) program (previous article), Hexagon Purus will continue the development phase of the project in 2022, with customer demonstrations in 2023 and mass production planned in 2024. Mass production spans multiple platforms, including Hino’s Class 6, 7, and 8 commercial trucks.
This agreement comes on top of the recently announced appointment of Hexagon Purus by a major commercial truck OEM to supply batteries. For Hexagon Purus, these two agreements represent an estimated value between approximately 1.8 and 2.2 billion US dollars.
The agreement includes support and after-sales service provided by Hexagon Purus. Initial production will be from Hexagon Purus’ new facility in Kelowna, Canada, which is currently under construction and expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2022.
Hexagon Purus offers mass-produced battery modules (Hexagon Purus ProPack battery systems) in a standard form factor with integrated battery management. These modules are integrated into liquid-cooled sealed packs in a wide range of sizes, shapes and mounting locations to meet the specific needs of each vehicle.
Hexagon Purus, a Hexagon Composites company, is a provider of Type 4 hydrogen high-pressure cylinders, batteries and vehicle system integration for fuel cell and battery electric vehicles.
