Kiki’s Delivery Service production cell up for auction at Heritage

Some films are like a breath of fresh air in a bustling crowd – the reprieve is refreshing and makes you grateful you had it, however fleeting. In the hustle and bustle of the film industry, especially when it comes to animation, Studio Ghibli’s work is exactly like that. This includes the 1989 classic very well Kiki’s Delivery Service.

Heritage auctionsa Dallas, Texas-based auction house that primarily sells comic books, video games, trading cards and other collectibles has put up a rare production cel of Kiki’s Delivery Service at auction. Potential bidders have until 9:50 a.m. Central time (or 10:50 a.m. Eastern time) on Friday, June 25 to place a bid on this beautiful production cellulo.

An incredibly memorable moment since the beginning of Hayao Miyazakithe masterpiece Kiki’s Delivery Service, This original hand-painted production cel can be seen at 7:11 into the film, as seen on HBO Max. Kiki’s Delivery Service is a definitive Studio Ghibli classic, with powerful themes for overcoming self-doubt during the difficult transition to adulthood and self-realization. A gorgeous image featuring the eponymous Kiki, her cat Jiji, her radio and her broomstick, this piece is loaded with iconic imagery and is an ideal piece for Studio Ghibli collectors. The image measures 9″ x 4.75″ centered on the 13.75″ x 9″ cel, and the piece is numbered B39C in the upper right corner. The cellulo shows minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use, and the condition is very good.
