Mass production of Enapter electrolyzers launched in North Rhine-Westphalia

“To massively reduce the costs of producing green hydrogen and achieve global climate goals, we now need to rapidly evolve existing technologies,” said the CEO of Enapter. Sebastien Justus Schmidt in his opening speech at the festive inauguration. “All of our DNA is focused on urgency in research, development and market entry: the campus is our contribution to the climate under the motto“ Act, don’t speak ”. The large-scale production of modular and compact AEM electrolysers for projects of any size will make a substantial contribution to tackling the climate crisis. ”

Based on current plans, the Enapter campus will cost around 105 million euros. Construction partner Goldbeck will build at an ambitious pace so that production can start gradually in the fourth quarter of 2022. The first deliveries to serial production customers are expected to start in 2023. The development is currently expected to create around 300 jobs at Saerbeck.

The automated mass production of electrolysers will enable Enapter to reduce the cost of devices and thus quickly make green hydrogen competitive with fossil fuels. The development of the machines necessary for mass production was supported by the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Digitization and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia to the tune of approximately 9.36 million d ‘euros.

“With Enapter, North Rhine-Westphalia has acquired a strong partner to advance the climate-friendly conversion of our industry, support the achievement of climate protection goals and create new employment opportunities in the region. “Said Professor Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, Minister of State of North Rhine-Westphalia for Economy, Innovation, Digitization and Energy.

Enapter already supplies more than 70 integrators and project developers in 40 countries with its patented AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) electrolyzers, which are standardized but flexible in implementation for many applications. From 2022, Enapter will offer the first megawatt-scale AEM electrolyser – the containerized AEM Multicore – comprising 420 of its AEM electrolysis cells.

“Enapter’s dynamic approach to tackling global warming has impressed us a lot,” said Jan-Hendrik Goldbeck, CEO of the family construction company. “We are both proud and delighted to be working alongside them in the construction of the Enapter campus and thereby contributing to the rapid scale-up of their electrolyser production. ”
