KAMAZ can renew the production of Moskvich cars that the Russian car market badly needs. Economist Albert Bikbov sticks to this opinion.

Speaking about the need for a new “popular” car, Bikbov points out that the price of a new Lada Granta in car dealerships starts from a million rubles. At the same time, the incomes of Russians are not increasing, they are unlikely to increase soon.

“Today the population needs a car as cheap as possible, like air, another Oka is needed, the price of which does not exceed 400-500 thousand rubles. It goes without saying that no one will make a copy of Oka now because a lot of time has passed and consumer preferences have already certainly taken root,” writes Bikbov.

To make the car as cheap as possible on the market, it must meet several criteria:

• Refuse injectors in favor of simple carburettors;
• Refuse ABS, automatic transmission and air conditioning;
• As little on-board electronics as possible.

Bikbov notes the development of a large dealer network and a developed spare parts market to make service as cheap as possible for the consumer.

“KAMAZ can revive the ‘popular’ car that Russians badly need,” writes Bikbov.

At the same time, Bikbov notes the fact that there may be worse security indicators, but he offers to remember the experience of Oka, who had none.

“The state could stimulate the production of such a car with subsidies for buyers and targeted funding to design and mass-produce such a car,” Bikbov offers.

Cooperation in the production of Moskvich is also supported by KAMAZ.

“We support the decision of the mayor of Moscow. This will save and develop the potentials of automotive engineering research and personnel in the country. Nowadays, issues of technological cooperation are under discussion. When they are resolved, we will make an official statement, ”said the head of the press service of KAMAZ PJSC Oleg Afanasyev.

On May 16, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the Renault plant would be run by city authorities after the company sells the business. It is planned that the production of Moskvich cars will be restored with its production capabilities. KAMAZ will become the main technology partner of the new automobile factory.
