Muller Technology, a global provider of molds and automation solutions for thin-wall packaging, will unveil its latest in-mold labeling (IML) automation technology for durable injection molded packaging at the upcoming K 2022 show..
The turnkey and fully optimized system will run on a 700 ton injection molding machine at the BMB SpA stand.
At K 2022, Muller’s IML production cell will produce a round container in an 8-cavity mold with vision inspection and downstream automation. “This IML innovation represents the latest in modular, high-efficiency solutions that meet the needs of today’s brand owners and converters who seek exceptional appearance, high production flexibility and productivity, and user interaction. enhanced and Industry 4.0 data exchange capabilities,” said Thomas Federer. , CEO of the Muller Group. The company has already sold this first IML production system to a European leader in packaging.
The IML production cell will produce a 100% mono-material container consisting of a fully recyclable polypropylene structure and a PP wrap-around and bottom label from Belgium-based labeler MCC Verstraete. The high-volume manufacturing cell can produce over 40 million containers per year for food, dairy and other consumer product packaging.
Muller’s IML solution features a modular design for added flexibility and versatility and can be upgraded with a case packing system. The automation system consumes less energy than standard systems thanks to a unique energy recovery system. Meanwhile, a dynamic input function uses artificial intelligence (AI) programming for self-optimization of robot intrusion and total cycle time. The advanced vision system is dedicated to IML applications.
Muller’s mold design minimizes maintenance and increases mold life. It offers quick-change capability, enabling fast, safe and damage-free product changes.
The IML automation system is also compatible with the Holy Grail 2.0 smart sorting system which provides label identification and meets the emerging demands of today’s circular economy.
The company will build these IML automation systems in the United States at its Fort Collins plant and in Switzerland at its Conthey plant.
