Introducing Italian producer and DJ Federico Costantini with his productions to date, picking up an array of A-list DJ backing from players such as Nicky Romero, R3HAB, KSHMR, Dash Berlin, Showtek, Will Sparks, Michael Calfan, Merk & Kremont , Wolfpack & Yves V.
We caught up with Federico as he presents his new release ‘Fire’ – signed to revered Teamwrk Records.
THE – Hi Federico – thanks for joining us today and welcome to THE – Music Essentials! Can you introduce yourself to our readers and share some insight into your background/journey in the music industry?
Federico – Hi guys, it’s a pleasure, thank you for having me! I was born and raised in Rome and moved to London 5 years ago. I started mixing at 18 and producing at 21.
My passion for electronic music was born from my beginnings in Ibiza when I started buying compilations of house music mixed by Erick Morillo, David Guetta and others. I was only 13 and too young to go clubbing. 3 years later I went to both Pacha and Amnesia for the first time.
I went to see Subliminal Sessions by Morillo at Pacha, Carl Cox at Space, Sven Vath at Amnesia, Fuck Me I’m Famous by Guetta at Pacha, Tiësto at Privilege.
It was those parties and listening to legendary DJs that made me realize that producing music and being a DJ was my biggest passion and what I really wanted to do.
Playing at Ministry of Sound in 2020 was a great achievement. I’m back there next Friday – can’t wait!
The next goals are Ibiza and Miami 🙂 I hope to get there soon thanks to my productions.
THE – Congratulations on your new single, ‘Fire’ – can you tell us about the inspiration behind the track and what brought you and Coulson together for this project?
Federico – I spotted Coulson online and instantly loved his voice. The fire was already there; the instrumental was ready, all I needed was her voice. Lockdowns were still in place, so we worked remotely. He did an amazing job with the lyrics and the top line. Everything worked perfectly.
I would love to collaborate with him again in the future and this time in person!
THE – How did ‘Fire’ find its way into the respected Teamwrk Records?
Federico – I had already signed ‘Set Free’ with Teamwrk, which was signed thanks to the support of Will Sparks on my previous releases.
My managers sent my last two songs, “October Skies” and “Fire”, to Teamwrk and they signed them right away.
LE – When it comes to your production process, what comes first – the melody, the breakdown/construction or something else?
Federico – Honestly it varies, it doesn’t always work the same way. I often start with melodies, even just to find inspiration.
I play the keyboard, I listen to other songs that I like, then I can end up doing completely different things, but that initial melody gives me the inspiration to start and most of the time I work first on the drop.
THE – Can you describe your sound signature in three words?
Federico – Deep, energetic, edgy
THE – You have a gig coming up at the Ministry of Sound in London, what can people expect from your DJ set?
Federico – I want to take them with me on an unforgettable journey.
LE – And finally, looking at the rest of 2022 – what’s next in the pipeline for Federico Costantini?
Federico – Lots of new music, I can’t say the labels yet!
