Ola Electric is currently focusing its energy on introducing its very first all-electric car.
Ola Electric has unveiled its first-ever locally developed lithium-ion battery cell. Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal took to Twitter to unveil the battery cell online, where he wrote that the transit service provider turned electric vehicle company was working on more technology. “Our first locally made Li-ion cell! The cell is at the heart of the electric vehicle revolution. We need to create our own technology to scale faster and innovate. Lots more in the pipeline on our cell technology roadmap! “, wrote Aggarwal in his tweet.

The Ola lithium-ion battery is expected to enter production at the automaker’s Gigafactory from 2023, the electric vehicle maker said in a statement. The EV company also claimed that it was the first ever locally developed lithium-ion battery cell in India. The battery is in the form of a high-nickel cylindrical cell and uses NMC on the cathode side; and graphite and silicon on the anode side, says Ola Electric.
The electric vehicle company further stated that the use of specific chemicals and materials allows the battery cell to store more energy in a given space and also improves the overall life cycle of the cell. He further claimed that the battery was developed with a focus on Indian weather conditions.
Talking about the battery cell, the CEO of Ola further said that a cell is the core of the electric vehicle revolution. “Ola is building the world’s most advanced cell research center that will allow us to scale and innovate faster, and rapidly build the most advanced and affordable EV products in the world. Our first locally manufactured Li-ion cell is also the first of many in our cell technology roadmap. Having a robust local EV ecosystem is important for India to become a global EV hub,” he added.
