A new report from Daily economic news says Apple will start mass production of iPhone 13 in India by February 2022.
This isn’t the first report that shows how Apple is trying to reduce its reliance on China as a manufacturing hub. A 2019 report suggested the Cupertino company was aiming to move up to 15% to 30% of its production out of the country.
Now, EDN says that according to Indian media, Apple has started trial production of iPhone 13 at Hon Hai Group plan in Chennai and it is expected to produce iPhone 13 in India by February for its domestic and overseas markets .
With the improved semiconductor supply, Apple plans to expand the production area of the iPhone 13. Industry executives have revealed that the Hon Hai factory in Chennai, India, has already tested the phone. (…) Industry executives have pointed out that the iPhone 13 produced in India will help Apple improve its offering in the global market, as 20-30% of the iPhone 13 produced in India is likely to be exported.
According to the report, Apple will only produce iPhone 13 and mini versions in India as they are more popular than Pro versions. However, iPhone 11 and 12 are the best-selling Apple phones in India. These two iPhone lines are already produced by Hon Hai while the second generation iPhone SE is produced by Wistron’s Bengaluru factory.
Neither Apple nor Hon Hai have commented on the new Daily economic news report.
As usual, Apple’s latest flagship phones are doing well around the world, but a report in October suggested the company was cutting iPhone 13 production by 10 million units, due to phone shortages. continuous chips.
To be sure how the iPhone fared during the holiday quarter, we’ll have to wait for Apple’s next earnings call, which is expected in early 2022.
