hopefully we will see 3nm in S23. I hope it manages to beat the SD chips somehow. I hope this will help them to make more compact phones (impossible, I guess RAM manufacturing is also going to 3nm!!!)

Seems pretty decent, but I don’t know if they factored in idle power like anandtech does. And anandtech has been dead for such scrutiny since andrei and ian left.

The real problem is excessive heat generation in a tiny area. Everyone will encounter this problem. The solution is to go with Chiplet Design until 3D cooling comes of age. Efficiency cores must be on a previous generation node.

Yields will improve and everyone is at least two years behind. However, design changes to the tools ecosystem will be difficult (like its pioneering work in fact), hope Synapses and others will help with the IP portfolio. The two-order-of-magnitude (duble) improvement is significant even if their previous half-knot wasn’t great. In fact, we probably hadn’t had such gains from a FinFet change of planarians (unfortunately, FD-SOI never really materialized in any meaningful form, which is a real shame). The real question is price and how much ecosystem Samsung can provide that will make or break it (including advanced packaging, interconnects, and stacking).

Super can’t wait to see how your 3nm chips will lose out to the iPhone 14 5nm battery comparison, as the 4nm Samsung and Snapdragon chips also lost out to the iPhone 13.

Even run Chipzilla with Samsung’s Node for next-gen fabs. Of course, Samsung is terrible.
