Tesla shows the entire Model Y production process in Shanghai

Tesla has shared a new video on its official China Weibo channel that shows an entire production process at the Tesla Giga factory in Shanghai.

It is mainly related to the Tesla Model Y, although many processes may be the same for the Model 3 as well.

Wu-Wa reports: “The latest promotional video on Tesla’s official Weibo account reads: A Tesla is more than the sum of its parts because we have rigorous quality control and attitude.”

While all the processes are interesting, we noticed rare shots from the battery assembly line, which show LG Energy Solution’s 2170 cylindrical cells (NCM 811 or NCMA chemistry):

In addition to batteries, it is interesting to see the production of electric motors as well.

Some might say Tesla’s factory is highly automated, like any other modern car factory, however, there is a lot of vertical integration and unique approaches like megacastings, batteries (overall design and use of small battery cells).

At one point, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that ultimately the company competitive The advantage will be manufacturing, which must inevitably be linked to automation, rationalization, vertical integration and new solutions. These are the things worth tracking.

The Tesla Model Y’s quality control processes were also shown in a separate video in July.

According to previous reports, Tesla produces around 1,000 Model Y MICs per day. This includes three versions: Long Range AWD, Performance AWD and Standard Range RWD (recently entered the Chinese market).
