TOKYO, September 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — LEVEL IVan open source autonomous driving startup, is pleased to announce that it will start mass production of new Automotive HDR cameras optimized for autonomous driving applications in October 2022. Sales targeting a wide range of customers in the market will be handled by five distributors: Aisan Technology, ASMEC, Okaya & Cie, PALTEK COMPANY and Ryoden Company.
Background
Camera technology plays a crucial role in advanced driver assistance systems and level 2 autonomous driving systems. It is also essential for the invention of level 3 and level 4 autonomous driving systems.
TIER IV is committed to the development of automotive cameras that outperform standard vision cameras in autonomous driving systems by applying in-depth knowledge and advanced software design know-how acquired through a number of projects international flagships. Testing for more than a year on this newly developed camera demonstrated outstanding performance in object detection and scene understanding in particular, which ushered in its use as a standard camera for self-driving vehicles. TIER IV has received many requests regarding its possible use not only in the field of autonomous driving, but also for various purposes such as autonomous mobile robots, security and surveillance systems.
Product Features
In addition to image quality, this camera offers superb performance compared to existing commercially available cameras. TIER IV also offers a wide range of support that enable users to easily develop applications by themselves.
Image quality specifications
High Dynamic Range (HDR) |
– Allows users to get images without crushed highlights or shadows, even in high contrast scenes with high dynamic range of up to 120 dB |
High sensitivity and low |
– Suppress noise even in low light environments for high quality images |
LED Flicker Reduction |
– Reduces flicker caused by LED traffic lights that have have become more common in recent years |
Other Features
Optical design and adjustments before shipment
|
– Uses only high quality automotive lenses which minimize defocus due to temperature changes – The lens is fixed allowing high precision adjustment of focal position as well as center, rotation and tilt of the lens and image plane using an active five-axis alignment system. Additional work such as individual focal adjustment is not required as the camera is shipped while consistently maintaining high optical performance. |
Integrated Image Signal Processor (ISP) |
– As the built-in ISP is able to adjust white balance and HDR rendering, lo processinghost-side announcement is reduced. – Supports various types of correction including lens distortion correction |
External synchronization function |
– Enables shutter control based on host timing signals (supports timing by GMSL2-based FSYNC signals prprotocol) |
Superior environmental sustainability |
– Guaranteed operating temperature range: ‒40°C to 85°C – Waterproof and dustproof performance equivalent to IP69K |
Maintenance of automotive quality
|
– Uses AEC compliant parts (Q100, Q101 and Q200) – Automotive quality manufacturing management is ensured and shipment inspections are carried out, both of which comply with IATF16949 and ISO26262 standards. |
Support Features
Driver support
|
– Linux kernel driver support (support for major Jetson products made by NVIDIA, ROScube-X made by ADLINK Technology and other industrial ECU products) – Support ROS1/ROS2 driver |
Image quality adjustment |
– Image processing parameters adjusted based on data from various practical environments such as public road testing, and simple image quality adjustment via API is also supported. |
Connectivity with Autoware* |
– Enables smooth cooperation with camera-based recognition functions included in Automatic software and Web.Auto, the development and application platform offered by TIER IV. |
* Autoware is a registered trademark of the Autoware Foundation.
Coming Development
In the future, to meet a wide range of customer needs, TIER IV will release a GMSL2-USB3 conversion kit so that customers can use this camera via USB connection like regular web cameras. The company will also add a new 5.4 megapixel (C2) high-definition model to its product line that uses Sony’s IMX490 CMOS image sensor. In addition, TIER IV is developing development kits for autonomous driving systems integrated into LiDARs and ECUs. By delivering these products to the market, the company will intensify its initiatives to realize its vision “The art of open source, reinventing intelligent vehicles”.
