On May 12, 2022, TrinaTracker, a leading tracking solution provider, launches SuperTrack, an innovative smart tracking system, and showcases the Vanguard 1P tracker at Intersolar Europe in Munich.
SuperTrack includes an intelligent tracking algorithm that increases energy production by up to 3% to 8% compared to conventional tracking algorithms. SuperTrack smart tracking combines Smart Tracking (STA) and Smart Backtracking (SBA) algorithms to improve power output, especially during periods of overcast weather and very diffuse irradiance and complex, uneven terrain.
STA optimizes energy production for bifacial modules under very diffuse illumination conditions by taking into account the 12 different parameters included in Trina’s bifacial irradiation model. This means a greater amount of information than the data obtained by the only four parameters used by astronomical algorithms. Additionally, STA reduces tracker rotation times, extending the life of the motors.
SBA minimizes power generation losses resulting from row-to-row shading in photovoltaic power plants installed on multi-slope terrain. First, drone sensing technology and power generation data simulate terrain and shadows in three dimensions. Then, the optimal recoil angle is precisely defined by a machine learning algorithm and the proprietary Mini-Shading model.
Additionally, the SuperTrack intelligent control system includes pyranometers and snow sensors, the data of which is shared between the NCUs. Therefore, when a sensor fails, the operation of the trackers is not affected and the energy production remains high. In addition, SupeTrack also incorporates actively reactive protection strategies in extreme weather conditions.
SuperTrack software provides monitoring and control with a user-friendly interface that displays target tracking and true angles, batteries, TCU and NCU monitoring, an alarm system with data storage and logging, weather information in time real and SuperTrack settings.
José Carlos Talavera, Head of Project Delivery and Global Client Services for TrinaTracker, said at the launch: “We are very excited to launch SuperTrack, a control monitoring system which, as part of our solution portfolio complete TrinaTracker, boosts our customers’ return on investment extraordinarily by increasing energy production by up to 3% to 8%.I strongly believe that TrinaTracker is breaking new ground in the photovoltaic industry by developing an artificially intelligence whose performance goes far beyond what is achieved by existing conventional tracking applications.”
TrinaTracker customers are already enjoying the benefits of integrating the SuperTrack intelligent control system into their PV installations. For example, the Tongchuan photovoltaic power plant generated an annual power increase of 3.06%.
Here are some other examples of SuperTrack performance:
Nangong Photovoltaic Power Plant, Hebei Province
Average energy gain in climatic conditions with strong diffuse radiation: 3.84%
Energy gain on a typical overcast day: 8.03%
Changzhou, Jiangsu Province
Energy gain on a typical sunny day: 4.64%
Energy gain on a typical cloudy day: 9.41%
The increased energy production data generated by SuperTrack has been validated by China General Certification (CGC) and Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), the world leader in testing, inspection and certification.
