Muscat: A leading company in the renewable energy sector in the Duqm Economic Zone has obtained the world’s first accredited international certificate for the commercial production of green hydrogen and ammonia.
The General Authority of Special Economic Zones and Free Zones has welcomed the announcement by “ACME”, the leading solar energy development company, that it has obtained the world’s first accredited international certificate for the production market for green hydrogen and ammonia, thanks to its project in the Duqm Special Economic Zone.
The company received this certificate from the German company TUV Rheinland, the world’s leading international technical service provider, which is one of the world’s independent certification service agencies in the field of renewable energy.
After having carried out the evaluation by the German Inspection Company of the green hydrogen project “ACME” in Duqm, it was proven that the project met all the criteria that it set for itself to obtain this certificate in reviewing the different specific production methods, transport methods and different applications of hydrogen.
This international certificate allows the company to commercially produce green hydrogen and green ammonia for potential customers in this promising industry, which will help encourage such investments by securing future long-term sales contracts and renewable energy facilities provided by various countries around the world.
It also opens the door to the entry of various international companies to invest in the promising sector of renewable energies in the Sultanate of Oman in general and in the special economic zone of Duqm in particular, and reinforces the efforts of the government to consolidate the position of Oman in the world market. card in the field of production and export of green hydrogen as the first country in the world to obtain this International certificate and to contribute to the transition to alternative energies and the diversification of sources of income.
Engineer Yahya bin Khamis Al-Zadjali, responsible for leading the works of the Duqm Special Economic Zone, said that the company’s obtaining this certificate confirms the promising future of the renewable energy sector in the economic zone. special feature of Duqm, which has a strategic location close to world energy sources, in addition to the completion of infrastructure such as ports and roads, which facilitates the export of these energies to different countries of the world.
For his part, Manoj Obadiai, Chairman of the Board of ACME, confirmed that the company’s receipt of the world’s first certificate for commercial production of green hydrogen represents a major milestone for the company’s plan to Duqm, where green hydrogen certification will pave the way for setting standard practices for green certification.
The company’s project will contribute to the localization of this promising industry, for which the General Authority of Special Economic Zones and Free Zones has allocated about 200 square kilometers to Duqm.
It should be noted that in August 2021, ACME signed a land reservation agreement for the green hydrogen project in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, which is expected to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year in the first phase of the project.
